Week Long in Taiwan

Spending lots of Daddy time in Taiwan. We re-visited many places and went to new ones ! It is definitely going to be a while before i go again..

Jiufen

Out of everything we had, this was the absolutely best. Found in a tiny shop off the harbor, we had smoked mapo fish skin, eggs & shark. It was really something else.

My Dad's favorite part of the trip, Theresa Deng's Memorial Museum.

Up a mountain

Sun Moon Lake

There were alot of places where we had been to previously, too lazy to take photos. :) Off to the next vacation. Hopefully it will come soon, now that i started work again.

Taipei .. The City of Night Markets

I kind of had enough of night markets. The clothes always seem too small or young, the food always seem good but not satisfying after a while. But it is fun to browse and munch every once in a while, plus after ending working at 830pm, it was the only place that i could think of being open. I remembered the instructions to the cab driver (nearest night market!) and off i went..

Spotted a rainbow from the top of Taipei 101 - new office

Taipei 101 - at night ..

Night market !

Smelly doufu ..

Chicken Backside ! (Or qi li xiang)

Spicy fish balls

Found a japanese food stall in the street market. I was pleasantly surprised for one. Then surprised again by the boiling pot of food next to the raw fish for sashimi.

Shaved ice - ingredients - yam balls, dumplings, sweet potatoes, good good stuff.

Traditional shaved ice machine... just like our ice kachang

Taipei, Taipei, Goodbye Taipei

A Walk Down Taipei City

After working for a full week, i finally had 2 hours free on Sunday, decided to go for a short walk down Taipei City. Making my way from my hotel to Taipei 101, i did not manage to walk the full stretch (damn you, rain) but it was still a good experience.

I had always found the rows and rows of scooters just adorable ..

Emerging from the suburbs to the city ..

The red, brickish buildings that i see scattered around the city.. Very charming..

Found a small farmers market in the park on a Sunday..

Stopped for lunch ... and it started raining afterwards..

The First Ding Tai Fung

After a while of ordering room service and sneaking off for rice balls at 7-11, i decided that enough was enough for a while and headed to Ding Tai Fung for lunch.

Not just any Ding Tai Fung, but the first one, where this legendary chain begun.

To recognize this restaurant in Taipei from its other branches, one just needs to see the long insane queue out front. With mobs of tourists from various countries mingling outside..

After 20 minutes of waiting, i made it inside !

4 Floors of seating within the restaurant, the only way up or down was the narrow stretch of stairs. There wasn't even a lift in this place.

Being very much alone, I ordered the signature fried rice and the crab roe xiao long bao.

No regrets there, just the romance of eating at this first stall that made xiao long bao every where possible. Mecca for Ding Tai Fung - accomplished.
