Jean Georges - Shanghai

When i was a poor, broke student in Shanghai, Jean Georges was one of the places that left me hesitating. To go or not to go .. that is the question & the bank account.

Now that i was heading back to Shanghai again for my class reunion, there I was, for my first stop, Jean Georges ~ The restaurant that held a mystifying power over me.

From Wikipedia,

"Besides the aforementioned 4 stars from The New York Times, Jean Georges has received the James Beard award for Best Chef and Best New Restaurant, and Esquire Magazine voted Chef Vongerichten the Chef of the Year in 1997. Jean Georges restaurant also holds 3 Michelin stars, one of 5 NYC restaurants currently holding the accolade. Jean Georges made the Gayot Top 40 Restaurants in the US list in 2004-2008. In 2008 it received a 18/20 "Excellent" rating. In 2009 it won the James Beard Foundation Award for outstanding restaurant."

After checking into my hotel, i made a straight beeline for lunch at Jean Georges.

Soaking in the old school ambiance & excellent service, I ordered

Foie Gras Brule - with dried sour cherries and candied pistachio. The Foie Gras was on a thin layer of bread that sung with every bite.

Crispy Crab Cake, Pink Peppercorn Mustard and Exotic Fruits - do not look down on that translucent liquid in the plate. It was tangy and yet complemented the heavy, fried crab cake perfectly. Ahhhhh

Grilled Lamb Chops, with Wild Mushroom and mashed potato. It was recommended to me by the waiter and later on, i read online that this was one of the best dishes in the house. I cannot even start to describe it. Meaty, yet tender. Tasty, yet not overwhelming. I was beaming from ear to ear with this.

Chin Huat Live Seafood

In a remote corner of Singapore far off the beaten road for seafood is Chin Huat Live Seafood. A reputation that was built up over the course of years, this restaurant must not be confused for the steamboat buffet chain around the nation.

For my Dad's birthday celebration, we had good seafood at affordable prices. The following was included:-

A modern, private, fashionable room in the midst of a crowded seafood restaurant.

Free, yummy, Longevity buns (colored buns with lotus paste within)

For starters, we had some of the biggest oysters i ever had in Singapore. Big, fresh, juicy. Just the way they were meant to be ..

Just look at the size of it on my plate ~

Roast Pig with a delicious sweet, savory sauce that was coated on the underside of the pig.

A Bamboo clam steamed with miso & Chinese Wine Sauce ..

Fish Head with toufu and other goodies

Fresh Meat briefly steamed with hot oil saute with spring onions.

Steamed Crab with Egg White, Chinese Wine Sauce

Highly recommended this restaurant for family outings. Did i mention about the thoughtful, excellent service throughout the entire dinner as well?

An Indian Wedding

One of my best friends for the longest time just held her wedding in Feb.. Here's the pictures to an Indian Wedding in Singapore..

The pain ... using super glue ..the bride painstakingly pasted these pretty little gems onto white candles .. all 8 of them ... kudos to her..

At the Bangle Ceremony, there are many festive days leading up to the actual wedding. One of the days was called the Bangle ceremony, where happily married woman will go up to the bride to offer her well wishes & putting bangles on her.

The wedding, held at the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore ..

The wedding ceremony is held on a stage where family & friends with the priest blesses the wedding couple.

The groom...

The bride.. and the irritating man that kept blocking all my shots >.<

After the blessing from the priest, the wedding couple is seated on stage and waits for all to come offer their well wishes.

:) Congrats to the happy couple, now happily nesting in their new apartment with their pet dog. All the best !
