Jean Georges - Shanghai

When i was a poor, broke student in Shanghai, Jean Georges was one of the places that left me hesitating. To go or not to go .. that is the question & the bank account.

Now that i was heading back to Shanghai again for my class reunion, there I was, for my first stop, Jean Georges ~ The restaurant that held a mystifying power over me.

From Wikipedia,

"Besides the aforementioned 4 stars from The New York Times, Jean Georges has received the James Beard award for Best Chef and Best New Restaurant, and Esquire Magazine voted Chef Vongerichten the Chef of the Year in 1997. Jean Georges restaurant also holds 3 Michelin stars, one of 5 NYC restaurants currently holding the accolade. Jean Georges made the Gayot Top 40 Restaurants in the US list in 2004-2008. In 2008 it received a 18/20 "Excellent" rating. In 2009 it won the James Beard Foundation Award for outstanding restaurant."

After checking into my hotel, i made a straight beeline for lunch at Jean Georges.

Soaking in the old school ambiance & excellent service, I ordered

Foie Gras Brule - with dried sour cherries and candied pistachio. The Foie Gras was on a thin layer of bread that sung with every bite.

Crispy Crab Cake, Pink Peppercorn Mustard and Exotic Fruits - do not look down on that translucent liquid in the plate. It was tangy and yet complemented the heavy, fried crab cake perfectly. Ahhhhh

Grilled Lamb Chops, with Wild Mushroom and mashed potato. It was recommended to me by the waiter and later on, i read online that this was one of the best dishes in the house. I cannot even start to describe it. Meaty, yet tender. Tasty, yet not overwhelming. I was beaming from ear to ear with this.
