Hanging Out - Part 2

Had another friend who was visiting the city as a precursor to his move to New York in September.

We caught 2 productions while he was in town, one was

Gated (Midtown International Theater Festival)

"GATED: The American Dream – SOLD
The mortgage bubble bursts but the residents of Northern California’s newest luxury GATED community have far bigger issues. This humorous drama pries open the gates of these McMansions to expose their flawed inhabitants. Using an ethnically diverse cast of 7 actors to portray 17 residents, they tackle this newly born dysfunctional suburbia. The illusion of the American dream and the perfect home is torn down by the realities of suicide, mental disorder, child abuse, Iraq, erectile dysfunction and keeps this community GATED"

In a atypical venue on the fourth floor of an industrial building, i entered into what must be one of the smallest theater studios i have ever been in. There was barely 5 rows with 10 seats on each row. It was a very small tight studio. But don't let that deflect you on the quality of the acting. There were some very talented actors in the cast. (Not to mention handsome!). All in all, this just makes me want to catch more productions in the city.

The second production that we caught was a musical called Avenue Q

Raunchy, politically incorrect, extremely hilarious. Talking about a bunch of down and out people staying in the same neighborhood resonates in the current economic downturn. I tell you, one of the songs, "The Internet is for Porn" still makes me chuckle.

It was a great weekend but missing the boyfriend and the dad and the dog badly. I hope Daddy's checkup on Friday will go well.
