In the second stop of the cruise, we ended up at Skagway - a old gold mining town in the past. Now it is just a sleepy town surrounded by beautiful mountains and a old railway called White Pass & Yukon Route which was formerly used by the gold miners.
The train ride was fun. It was a tiny train traveling perilously in between valleys, rivers, all rickety bridges and old trails where people died during the Gold Rush before the railway was built. Scenery was breathtaking of course. I was at the back of the train, taking photos in the open air. Just leaning on the rails, snapping like crazy. Even as i look at my photos now, i remember the fresh, crisp cold air that numbed my face.
We had some time to wander about the town. I was glad that the Alaskans had a kitschy sense of humor.
When in Alaska, eat Alaskan King Crab. :)
