The week before we left for Japan, we decided to gave up on Tokyo Disneyland for Nikko. Nikko was snowing on the day we went. The Unesco site with Tokugawa Ieyasu and his son's tombs is a place deserving of a day trip.
Away we went on a 2 hour train to Nikko...
And there we were, wondering around the tombs and temples of a place long past. As it was Winter, the legendary crowds were sparse but the downside was that we had very limited time as the sites start to close at 4pm - 430pm.
A steep flight of stairs ... and we reach Ieyasu's humble tomb amidst grandeur of its surroundings.
Once the temples closed, we started to wonder off on foot around the town of Nikko. But with the snow and the winds, we lasted enough to head to the scenic Shinkyo before beating a retreat back to Tokyo..
When we reached Tokyo, we headed to Asakusa when the legendary temple was located with its huge lanterns..
